Continuing on with the Love Dare

So Mr. Wright and myself have continued on with our dares and I would say its going quite well. We have learned a lot about ourselves in the process and how to stop and think about how our actions are affecting others.

Quote for the Day

There is only one person who could ever make you happy, and that person is you.
David Burns, Intimate Connections

This has been my motto for the year...if I'm not happy then no one around me will be. So I will do what makes me happy.

Inspirational Quote of The Day

Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.
-Helen Keller

I like this quote, its something most of us should take to heart. That either you take risks in life or you do nothing.

Beginning of the Love Dare

So not that our marriage is in trouble but we along with our closest friends are starting the Love Dare today. So today on Day 1 was to deal with patience and being not being quick to snap at your partner, to hold your tongue and be silent. Which is a trying thing for me and my hubby, we are both very quick tempered. After work is our most trying time, so hopefully after work today it we will both still be able to keep our tongues silent and say nothing negative.

Making it work

So I had decided to turn over a new leaf for Lent. I had walked away from God a few years back, not really turning my back on him but I know I wasn't making him the priority in my life that I should have. Lately he had been laying on my heart that I was needing him in my life now, and I believe that I now know the reason, and no its not necessarily for me, but more for a friend and how to help her through a rough patch that she's facing currently in her life. So I believe that God laid on my heart so that I would be able to truly listen to my friend and truly find a way to help her in this crisis.

Thoughts of the Month

As you have read, my mother's twin, my uncle, is has battled colon cancer for about 10 years now and has now been told his cancer is spreading. So my new outlook on life, is to take control of my life and live it for me and do what makes me happy and to stop pleasing other people.

Also today on the way home, the country station I listen to has a daily "Something you can hang your hat on" segments of inspirational stories that will make you think. Today's message goes right along with my new outlook on life.

SOMETHING YOU CAN HANG YOUR HAT ON

I got up Saturday morning with snow on the ground and this statement as a status on a friend's Facebook page: Just ate doughnuts and drank hot chocolate with the kids. First time i have had that stuff in forever and it was great! What the hell, its a snow day!

Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they haven't thought about it, don't have it on their schedule, didn't know it was coming or are too rigid to depart from their routine.

Have you ever thought about all those people on the Titanic who passed up dessert at dinner that fateful night in an effort to cut back?

How many women out there will eat at home because their husband didn't suggest going out to dinner until after something had been thawed? Does the word 'refrigeration' mean nothing to you?

How often have your kids dropped in to talk and sat in silence while you watched "Sportscenter" on television?

I overheard this at a funeral once. "I cannot count the times I called my sister and said , 'How about going to lunch in a half hour?' She would gas up and stammer, 'I can't. I have clothes on the line. My hair is dirty. I wish I had known yesterday, I had a late breakfast, It looks like rain' And my personal favorite: 'It's Monday.' We never did have lunch together. "

Because Americans cram so much into their lives, we tend to schedule our headaches. We live on a sparse diet of promises we make to ourselves when all the conditions are perfect!

We'll go back and visit the grandparents when we get Steve toilet-trained. We'll entertain when we replace the living-room carpet. We'll go on a second honeymoon when we get two more kids out of college.

Life has a way of accelerating as we get older. The days get shorter, and the list of promises to ourselves gets longer. One morning, we awaken, and all we have to show for our lives is a litany of 'I'm going to,' 'I plan on,' and 'Someday, when things are settled down a bit.'

Now..go on and have a nice day. Do something you WANT to...not something on your SHOULD DO list. If you were going to die soon and had only one phone call you could make, who would you call and what would you say? And why are you waiting?

And that's something you can hang your hat on.

Sign Project

So yesterday was not only Valentine's day but it was also my friend's son's 3rd birthday and he was getting a "big boy" bed. He is having 2 sets of bedding, construction and emergency vehicles...so I made him some artwork for his bookcase.

Now this was all done freehand so its not the best quality but its the best I can do and the lil munchkin was very thankful for it.

Let is snow, let it snow, let it snow...

So the south is bombarded by snow...well at least our area is. I would say around 4 inches hit the loving town of Harrisburg. The hubs and I took the pups out in it...because for once its snow and not just ice...needless to say I do not have snowbabies. They DO NOT like snow. But its beautiful to look at and it was fun to watch them step and sink down, step and sink down...

more to come

This week hasn't been much. However, I did go to my good friend Jessica's bridal shower this past weekend and she also had her bridal portraits before the shower and she was absolutely beautiful. I am excited for her big day.

Pin Curls and Prison

well Jail but alliteration people. A younger cousin of mine is finally where he belongs...behind bars. And I am extremely proud of his sister for being the one to call the police on him. He had 2 warrants out for his arrest and then he stole his sister's car...AGAIN...and was at a drug dealer's house and she had him arrested. This after he almost died the other weekend from mixing alcohol and anti-depressants. Good riddance. I hate to be that way but, seriously...you can only be so supportive for so long, after that it gets to a point where it just needs to end. My poor lil cousin (the female) also had to send her mother to the hospital after and overdose on some kind of medication, I am assuming Xanax. She told the hospital what her mother had done and walked away and out of the hospital. I just want to stand up and applaud my cousin for finally washing her hands of this situation. I understand loving your family and all that but seriously there has to be a line, and she finally drew it and has walked away from her bad influence of a mother and brother. This cousin of mine is a walking, talking, electrial engineering genius. She's currently finishing up her Masters in some kind of electrical engineering research with a possibility of continuing on to obtain her Ph.D. She has a 4.0 GPA and works her butt off at school. I am so proud of her for all of her accomplishments.

On to other matters...I got in touch with my Vintage side last night after my Cardio Boxing work out and shower, and rag-rolled my hair. Hubby just stared as I rolled my hair...he'd never seen that before, wrapped it up with my bandana/scarf...and this morning unrolled it and then pieced it out and pinned it back. I got tons of compliments. Also my new hat arrived today. I will take pictures and post them from the bridal shower I am attending this weekend for one of my best friends.

Hope everyone has had a wonderful day. The weather here today was fabulous and such a refreshing day after the freezing temperatures we have had.

Weight Loss Week 1

From my post last week regarding my weight loss challenge I am down 3.5 lbs. As of last week I was at a shocking 211 and os of today I am weighing in at 207.5. Which to some may not seem like a whole lot but to really lose the weight and keep it off it should be a gradual loss. I will post a picture later today. Tomorrow I go in to meet with my weight loss doctor to make sure my heart is healthy and to keep me on track.

Bad Day

Not sure if anyone in my family reads this but today has been one of the worst days of my life to date. It all started with a phone call from my mother telling me she is on the way to my Grannys house because they think that one of my cousin's is dead. On top of the fact that is mother was in the hospital a few days ago due to the fact she took too many aspirin and it caused her lungs to stop pumping oxygen to her brain and started making her go nuts. Not only does my mom tell me this but also the other day when I had asked her about the results of my uncle's (her twin) PET scan results, she had lied to me telling me that he was fine and that his colon cancer hadn't spread and the spot on his lung wasn't cancer, turns out his cancer has now spread to his lungs and liver. So in the spread of one phone call I felt so just so...I don't know if I can explain it. I love my family. Growing up as an only child, I spent lots of time with my aunts, uncles and cousins. I really don't know how to distinguish them from like brothers and sisters. Well having to be there while we waited to here something is nerve wracking. On top of that waiting to break the news to my younger cousin about hr brother broke my heart. I love this girl as if she were a true sister and to see her hurting nearly killed me. Finally we got the news that her brother was in stable condition and breathing on his on. Although he is not completely out of the woods yet. I just ask that whoever reads this to make sure you never take a moment for granted with those you love, family or friends. If there's a lesson to be learned today it is just to love one another and that each day we have to spend with those we love is a gift.

New Year, New Goals

Hope everyone had a wonderful New Year. I have been slammed at work, but better to be slammed than no work at all. I apologize for the delay.

My Goals for 2010

1. Lose 50lbs. Yep you read that right. I go to a clinic for weight loss currently and over the past couple of months have dropped 15lbs and kept it off. Its the most wonderful feeling I can imagine. So in order to help me attain my goal and reach it...I will journal it here...so that those of you who actually read this can keep me accountable. I received a Wii for Christmas from my wonderful mother to help me out and from my very wonderful department at work they got me the Wii Fit Plus. On top of that my mother gave the Hubby and I some money for games that we both would use and my MIL gave us some gift cards to my favorite store...Amazon.com. So I have now gotten Wii Fit Plus, Jillian Michaels Ultimatum 2010 and EA Active More Workouts.

2. Save money for a downpayment on a vehicle and also towards a down payment on a new home.

3. Try to keep the house more organized and clean.

My list isn't long and I do that for a reason...if I lose focus because there is too much...then I'm more likely to fail. So I tend to keep it short and sweet.

I will post pictures, along with my journal of weightloss, so be forewarned...it may not be pretty.

Looking forward to a new start on a new year.

Oh and an update on my mother's health. She hasn't heard anything yet regarding her tests. She went last week and had an ultrasound done to check for gallstones. Now also, her twin brother, who does have colon cancer has to go to the doctor in a few days for a PET scan, to check a spot on his lungs, that could possibly be cancerous.

My wonderful brother-in-law, spent 5 years as active duty Air Force, is currently a contracted civilan working for the Air Force doing what he did while he was Active. He's also a Reservist now. We got to spend a wonderful Christmas with him and his wife, my sister-in-law, due to the fact he will be deploying in a few days.

Keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers.

So let's hope this year can be a blessing for all.
